I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello.-
Paul McCartney
Pffft! There went the month of October. It happened all over the world to creatures of all persuasions. It didn't matter if we had plans, made promises, flew far away or let our tailbones grow a tap root into the couch. October is gone! But a shot of "goodbye" looks a lot like "hello" to me.
As October began, I had every intention of logging the progress of my Eat Local Challenge commitment. I did everything but that and as the Grumpy Girl was about to write it up on her Should List, I asked a pivoting question: What did I do in October?
Looking back on those thirty-one days I realized that October was all about Eating Local. I went to the Keauhou Farmers' Market and came home with foods I had never tried before and a couple of friendly farmers even encouraged me to grow my own. I now have a chayote vine crawling it's way up a bamboo stick in my sea-level garden and I'll soon be planting some naranjillos next to my green onions and cherry tomatoes.
My daughter and I worked on Guava Bee and Ono Bee, I showed up to teach my yoga classes, did some massages, yadda, yadda. My point is that I got a lot done but I was almost going to grade myself with an Incomplete! That's like focusing on a cold sore and forgetting about the other 98% of my body that's healthy and functioning perfectly. I wouldn't do that, would I?
A slight tweak in perception and I can change history! October was a great month. Instead of saying "goodbye" to the past, I'll say "hello" to now.
